World Cancer Day 2022

"Almost everyone's family at some point faces a battle with cancer. It is some of the most difficult and shocking news anyone can hear from their doctor. Those are times to hold our loved ones close and pray. We know that modern medicine, procedures and technologies are always advancing and getting better. The goal of this day is to raise awareness, improve prevention, save lives through early detection, and close gaps that exist in getting the best possible care. In American Samoa's case, we have challenges based on remote geography and the size of our population and local economy. I appreciate the dedication of our health care professionals, including doctors, nurses, administrators and more. I will continue to work with Congress, the Biden administration, and ASG in finding ways forward for better infrastructure, modern equipment, telehealth options, attracting and keeping the necessary personnel, and as much local health care as possible for our Veterans and seniors. We can be thankful for the many advances in cancer treatments, and the ongoing research in this important field through efforts like World Cancer Day."
